Christmas Eve! How that brings back a season of memories to me! My dad was a minister of a small church in the upper peninsula of Michigan. There was never any dream of a white Christmas. We dreamed of actually seeing green grass by Memorial Day. But a white Christmas was guaranteed every year. I remember … the teenagers from the youth group with clunky boots, layers of wool, all wrapped up in knitted scarves driving miles between houses to stand outside in the cold and sing Christmas carols; those same kids grabbing sleds, toboggans, and hoods of old cars to go sledding on hills with ungroomed runs; I remember the Christmas program practice with angel costumes created out of white sheets tied with garland and bathrobes with binder twine belts and kitchen towel turbans to dress shepherds and wisemen; I remember playing ping pong in the living room and shuffle board in our hallway because we didn’t have a basement or family room; after hours of clearing snow from the frozen lake, we were able to skate for less than an hour because by then everyone was frozen; back to a warm house for hot chocolate and singing around the piano while my sister, Janet, played Oh Come All Ye Faithful and Silent Night. I remember the season leading to ‘the day’! I remember going to bed filled with wonder of what I would get for Christmas. Anticipation…on Christmas morning I would open two gifts, one from my grandma and one from my mom and dad. I was so excited, I couldn’t sleep. By 5:00 Christmas morning my brother, David and I were ready! We couldn’t wait for our older brother, Vance and sister, Janet to get up and help us wake mom and dad. Christmas was here! Come on already! Up! Up! Up! OK everybody up! Rise and shine! Good Morning ♪♫•*¨ To You ¸•♫¸.•.¸ ¸♥¸*♫*•.¸¸♥Good Morning ♪♫•*¨ To You ¸•♫¸.•.¸¸♥¸*♫*•.¸¸♥
