Still Learning

No Internet where I am today . . . here’s a rerun to get your Friday started.

It’s FRIDAY everyone! YES! In reality Friday is just another day – but don’t we love it because we get to slip out of the ordinary path for a couple days? No matter how great our Mondays thru Fridays are, and as much as we love our jobs and seeing our friends at work every day, there’s just something about Friday that’s got that added anticipation of special. Isn’t it because for a couple days we get to call the shots with our time? Can everyone say no meetings? And the clock is more like a ghost – there but practically invisible even when we have our days planned out. So let’s have one big RAH! RAH! For Friday! In fact, this is my thanks for today. Thank you, God for Fridays, and tomorrow I will thank Him for Saturday, and on Sunday once again be thankful, and then Monday – yes, thankful for Monday because it’s a day that the Lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it. Right?

When I go through rough patches I can’t help but read Isaiah and Jeremiah. I have a few verses there on pages marked, highlighted, and practically worn out from emphasized reading. Today I craved the words of God telling me that He has called me by name – Jane, when you pass through the waters I, God, will be with you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned. (Are you listening to me, Jane? Sometimes you are such a slow learner. Listen! I’m telling you these things so you finally get it! What is so hard about this?) You are precious and honored in my sight. Do not be afraid, I am with you. Isaiah 43:1-5 Then I can’t miss this one verse that’s highlighted underlined and starred: Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. Verse 18. Wow! If that doesn’t get me up and on the road, nothing will.

Why is it so difficult to remember that God knows my steps even before I take them? All the dumb things I do, He’s there to cover for me, and all my sadness He’s there to take away – if I let Him in to do it. Today, I’m entering the battlefield armed with this. Knowing that before each step I take, God is in front of me scouting out the minefield. He says that over and over – I am the Lord your God and I want what’s best for you. Give me your life and even though it isn’t easy, it will be worth it. And to that, all I can say is “Thank you, awesome God, for being everything I need to get through this life, even the days when the last thing on my mind is joy.” So are we ready now? This day was created for us. What are we going to do about it? Let’s choose joy. Let’s turn our world inside out – because when we get the inside right, the outside takes care of itself. Take a moment and think about the majesty of the King. Pray your way – the day waits!
