Yesterday was phenomenal! Not because I whacked off my to-do list at the root. Let’s face it. My to-do list will never be an all-done list, and I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, neither will yours. Look at it this way: No list. No motivation. But what was so amazing yesterday? What was it that put yesterday into the classification of phenomenal? Relationships! I met a group of women from my past for an ornament exchange. The ornament is the vehicle for getting us together, but the pull is relationship. Sharing our lives, where we’ve been, how we’ve thrived, and how or plans are shaping up for the future. Blessed!
I met my son at a store to talk about cell phones and kids, and plans for Christmas. Impromptu never happens with grown kids…..Blessed! I picked up Katelyn at her Christmas program practice and was once again in awe of how the directors of the play organize both kids and music to produce an amazing testimony of the Christmas story and evidence of love is unmistakable. Blessed!
All that followed by dinner at the home of two of our most steadfast friends. Tim and I have known Larry and June since 1974 and we have literally been through it all together. After dinner (all homemade) we went to our former church, Kentwood Baptist to experience the night of Bethlehem before seeing the highly recommended movie, Lincoln. Blessed!
It was a day packed with just what I needed – each stop a blessing to tuck into my memory for a time when I need the reminder of the importance of relationships. The trip to Bethlehem is repeating today at Kentwood Baptist Church. This reenactment of the event is so realistic, you are there, in the city of David. I couldn’t stop taking pictures – it was so unbelievable. I hope you will look at the photos on Facebook so you can see how expertly the event was produced. But here’s what you really need to do. If you want to experience the love of God’s people, if you want to be in the presence of a loving God, if you crave blessings – spend time in Bethlehem today. I’m not selling you a ticket. The entire event is FREE. I’m talking about walking through the streets of town and seeing the reality of Jesus birth, what the town looked like, what the people were doing, and what they were saying about the Messiah. Tonight you will reflect and say Blessed!
At the end of the walk through Bethlehem, there was a stable, with real animals, and there in the corner was a baby, his mother, Mary and father, Joseph. Think about Joseph’s story. It’s so applicable to ours today. Joseph asks God, “Father, show me how I fit into this plan of yours ….”. He wasn’t challenging God. He really wanted to know. In a heartbeat, at the visit of an angel, the quiet life he had lived as a carpenter, changed forever. We can ask the same thing. “Father, how do I fit into your plan? Please show me how to live for You.”
